To whom it may concern
I am writing in support of the work I have seen of the Ardhmeria Albanian Community organisation, specifically, the Saturday school at Wilberforce School , Queen’s Park, W10. I visited the school two weeks ago, and was stunned by the scale of the exercise, the range of activities and the enthusiasm and good will amongst participants. I have also heard positive reports from the Head teacher of the school.
Many of the local participants are living in local wards like Queen’s Park and Westbourne, which are amongst the most deprived in the country. The Mozart estate, where the school itself is situated, is ranked as the most deprived in the country on one of the indices of the Index of Multiple of Deprivation, reflecting excessively high levels of housing need (over-crowding, homelessness), worklessness and low income. Partly in consequence, Westminster secondary education has tended to under-perform, so the work being done by good quality supplementary schools is absolutely vital in supporting students.
I would like to see supplementary schools such as these being enabled to provide more opportunities for learning and enjoyment in these highly stressed communities, and to improve liaison with formal education to their mutual benefit.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information.
